AWS Ground Station is the industry’s first satellite Ground Station as a Service located within the AWS Global Infrastructure footprint to offer on-demand, elastic access to ground station satellite antennas without long-term contracts. AWS Ground Station is a fully managed service by AWS that lets us control satellite communications, process data and scale our operations without having to worry about building or managing our own ground station infrastructure.

Satellites are used for a wide variety of use case:

Weather forecasting

Surface imaging

Communications

Video broadcasts

Natural disasters

Business trends assessment

AWS Ground Station provides direct access to AWS services and the AWS Global Infrastructure including a low-latency global fiber network located where our data is downlinked into the AWS Ground Station. It’s easy to use AWS Ground Station with other AWS services to process and store satellite-orinated data, either in the region local to each AWS Ground Station antenna or in another AWS region.

Data can be stored locally on EC2 instances using Amazon Elastic Block Store, in a shared filesystem using Amazon Elastic File System or in Amazon S3. In S3, we can configure lifecycle policies to automatically migrate older, less-frequently-accessed data to less expensive storage classes, including S3 Infrequent Access and Amazon Glacier.

AWS Ground Station benefits are as:

Ground Station as a Service

Immediate data processing

Self-service scheduling

Faster data downloads

Security you can trust

Pay-as-you-go

To start with AWS Ground Station, navigate to the AWS Ground Station console in the AWS Management Console. Here, we identify the satellites we need to communicate with and schedule “Contacts” with the satellite.

What is “Contact” ?

A Contact is a reservation to communicate with a specific satellite from an identified ground location between certain times. AWS Ground Station uses multiple measures to protect satellites from unauthorized contact.

AWS Ground Station antennas are capable of using common frequency bands to communicate with satellites, including: S- and X-. AWS Ground Station supports narrowband uplink speeds up to 54 MHz and downlink speeds up to 500MHz. AWS Ground Station can communicate with Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Non-Geostationary Earth Orbit (NGSO), and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites.

We will be charged after each contact completes. We will see the charge on our monthly AWS bill each month for our Reserved Minutes commitment plus any On Demand minutes used that month.

I am still searching more information on this service, also looking for some expert who can talk to me on this service.

Keep Exploring !!! Keep Learning !!!
